STOCKHOLM - THE CITY OF ART - 2022
Aimed at those who work with some type of educational activity, such as school, preschool, cultural school or leisure activities.
By subscribing to a School Free Ticket, you and your business get access to an educational guide here on the site for working with public art during the academic year 21-22. You also get access to a surface where you present your work and can take part in others. Your works will have the opportunity to be shown during the festival program 2022. All participants will also receive a fine WALLSTREET Stockholm diploma.
WALLSTREET Stockholm engages children and young people throughout the Stockholm region in the work of creating public art in various ways. Through this pedagogical material, all different activities are invited to participate and add color to their immediate environment, create around a common theme and bring different places to life. During the festival, there will be different occasions for the works to be seen. The goal is to create 1,800 works together – so we achieve a total of 2022 pieces! (222 + 1800)
WHY CREATE PUBLIC ART?
Through the work, the participants can assimilate the basics of how to create a public work of art from planning to materials science, technology and implementation. They get to participate in an artistic process from idea to finished result. They do not need to have previous experience of artistic work, but the methods can be adapted so that everyone can participate on their own terms.
HOW CAN PUBLIC ART BE CREATED?
We work for a process where the participants create works together. This presupposes that it is the participants who are the artists and your role as an educator and supervisor is to support and lead them towards their goals. By determining certain frames as a color palette and a theme of a broad character, such as dreams, memories or something from the global goals, you as an educator or supervisor are still allowed to have a good overall view of the artwork’s direction and work process. These frameworks should be set before starting work.
With the support of color palette and theme, the responsible educator can control the process on an overall level, without affecting the personal stories and expressions of the participants too much. This process is to be regarded as a framework for the common work of art. Based on this framework, a final composition of all individual stories can then be composed. This work then becomes uniform in the form of color and theme and enables a great breadth in the art that is created. A basic idea the educator can carry with him is that we should only glue and bind the book, we should not create the content; this is done by the participants.
Educators and artistic leaders have a great responsibility in conveying material knowledge and instructing how each tool is used. This presupposes that the educator himself, not only masters, but is comfortable with the form of expression that the work uses. To become comfortable in a craft requires practice, so it is not possible in a theoretical way to create a complete idea of how materials and tools behave. Feel free to test the materials and techniques you want to use. This can be done, for example, in a working group as a team exercise. Further down you see inspiration on different techniques.
WHAT KIND OF ART IS CREATED?
The art that is created is affected by a number of different parameters that are specific to you, such as location, material and method, time required and number of participants. In addition to these factors, partners and the age of the participants can influence the design of the work. For a favorable result, open dialogue between participants, supervisors, clients and citizens is recommended.
